When you search “christmas picture” on Pinterest, you will most likely see this picture while scrolling around.
This is by far my favorite picture I have ever taken. And this was taken back in 2011 with my little Canon Rebel XSI. Just goes to show that even the little guys can create magical pictures.
I have received many e-mails about how to achieve this picture (I apologize to those who I didn’t respond to last year as I was on a pregnancy hiatus) so I am going to do a quick post on the little details.
I wish there was a special technique I used but it was really as simple as dimming down the lights, wrapped the lights around B, plugged it in, and clicked away! I received a little bit of criticism for subjecting B to the lights since they contain lead. But I can reassure you, it didn’t take longer than ten minutes to get this shot! B is alive and well — smart as ever, might I add!
So onto to real reason you’re reading this post, the deets on this picture! I used f/4.5, shutter: 1/30, and ISO 1600. I did a little tweaking to taste in photoshop such as brightening up the picture and warming up the image to give it the warm christmas glow. I wish I still had the original to compare and go through step by step but our computer crashed and I lost all the originals 🙁
I hope this quick tutorial helps my fellow photography enthusiasts achieve this look! Any additional questions, you can shoot me an e-mail. I will do my best to get to them with my little monster wreaking havoc 24/7.
