How the JoopJoops document our memories

memories

In this digital age, pictures last almost forever (unless you had the misfortune of having your hard drive crash like I did this year). Those memories can be cherished for generations to come.

Since we had our little Ittybot, I’ve taken an unhealthy amount of pictures. And on top of that, we’ve been traveling so much that my cameras definitely got their clicks in.

I have been so focused on documenting our experiences the past couple of years, it’s borderline obsessive. This is going to sound morbid, but I want our children to have an obnoxious amount of memories to look at in case anything were to happen to one of us or even worse, the both of us.

On top of that, our families want to see what we’re doing now that we’re so far away!

So I thought I’d share how we document memories of our Ittybot, our travels – basically, our entire lives!

1. Social Media Sites: This is a no brainer. Almost everyone has a Facebook or Instagram these days. Our families can instantly keep up with us on a daily basis and comment on how adorable he is.

2. E-Mail: Before Ittybot was born, we set up an e-mail for him. We would e-mail him how excited we were to meet him, how his gender reveal party went and etc. We haven’t been as good about e-mailing him lately, but this is a good reminder that I need to e-mail him! I hope to give him the password when he’s much older and would appreciate e-mails from his awesome parents.

3. Scrapbooking/Project Life: I used to be an avid scrapbooker. I liked to print out the pictures and dress the pages up. But that got expensive and it was very time consuming. I’ve since graduated to “Project Life” because it requires a lot less time and it’s still pretty darn cute!

4. Vlogging: We started to Vlog November 2013. This stemmed from a conversation I had with one of my best friends about how I wanted to start creating videos for our friends and family to watch on a (somewhat) weekly basis. That way, they could “join” us on our European adventures. She assured me she would actually watch them and here are now 80+ videos later! It hasn’t been that long and we already love looking back on the videos to see how much Ittybot has grown in just one short year. Wanna check it out? Just click here.

5. Postcards: Everywhere we go, we pick up a postcard. Seems pretty common, right? We like write to Ittybot on the postcards so he can read them later, I plan to place all of them in our Project Life Binder. I’m very excited for him to read them one day! I don’t know why we haven’t done this the entire time, but we recently started getting stamps for them so he can have the stamps from the country as well. We don’t mail them for the fear of it getting lost in the mail.

6. SmashBook: Yet another project I put on my own plate! The idea of a smashbook is that you throw anything you want in an adorably designed book. They have different themes such as travel, baby, vintage…you name it, they’ve got it! There are no rules or ideal ways to complete it. Let your creativity take its course!

I ordered a Fuji Instax camera so we could take quick pics to throw inside. While we are on travel, I like to grab business cards from the hotels so our kids could maybe try to retrace our steps or at least see where we have stayed. I also like to grab city maps and put them in there so we can see years and years down the line how the city has changed when we go back. Hopefully we do get to revisit some of the cities!!

7. Magnets: I know, I know, tourist much?? It’s such a simple and fun souvenir though! We wanted to collect a souvenir for Ittybot from all the places we have been and we thought a magnet would be one of the lightest and cheapest souvenirs to get. The Mr. likes cheap. I have a magnet project in mind for when we have a more permanent home. I can’t wait!

8. Blogging: I started a blog titled “Our Happily Ever After” just as a diary to ourselves about our thoughts and experiences. It has expanded to random tips and reviews I wanted to share along the way.

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions! I’d love to hear them!
